Edit : I was 18 when I wrote this post. 😛 I realise how difficult it is to follow all these steps. And I realise how important balance is. But glad I had written it & posted it here. Fun reading it now!

Procrastination, I am sure you have heard this word before. In case you are wondering what does it mean, in simple words it means postponing the tasks that need to be done. For example, you know that you have an exam after 5 days, but still you wait for the very last moment and then start preparing for it. You wait, you postpone, you “procrastinate”. The worst thing about procrastinating is that it leads to failure. We always think that there is time left, but sadly thats not true. I am myself a procrastinator but I have realised that this horrible habit of postponing has lead to several failures. Okay, lets cut to the chase.

Do what you like first, if you aren’t happy with what you are doing you will end up procrastinating again.
Create short term and long term goals for yourself. Short term goals should include the day to day tasks and long term goals should include what you actually want from yourself after a certain period of time. For example, short term goals should include things like studying for a particular exam, paying the bills etc. Long term goals should include the final thing that you want from yourself, like completing graduation or getting married (I hope thats not the case).
“Failing to plan is planning to fail”. Personally, I feel that planning is the first step towards curing this problem of procrastination. As I mentioned above write down your short term goals for the day.
Right before you sleep, sit down with a piece of paper and create a small to-do list for yourself.
Stop texting and facebooking while you are working. Kill all those things that are coming between you and your success.
Don’t be too hard on yourself. Use the pomodoro technique! Work for say 45 minutes then take a break. Repeat this cycle until that particular task is done.
Last but not the least, laugh! Stay happy do what you love and you will end up doing the right thing.
Life is fun, we ourself make it hard. Never settle for anything, do what you love and you will never feel the need to procrastinate ever again.
